KINDA OLD NEWS BUT…
Damian Abraham, lead singer of Toronto band F—ked Up, is to host a revamped version of The Wedge on MuchMusic.
The TV music network announced the return of The Wedge and RapCity in a release Monday.
The revamped The Wedge, starting Jan. 26, is to include live performances and interviews with musicians as well as showing music videos.
Abraham, known as Pink Eyes, plans to discuss the videos with a group of other musicians during the show. The singer — 285 pounds, with a shaved head and known for drawing his own blood during his band’s berserk live shows — seems an unlikely choice as a host, but says he’s a great lover of The Wedge, which was cancelled last year.
“The Wedge played a huge part in my musical development,” Abraham said in a statement. “I’m honoured to be able to have the same impact on a new generation of music fans.”
The Wedge launched in the early ’90s as a showcase for non-mainstream bands, many of which weren’t getting radio play.
Abraham said he wants to return some edge to the show, though it may not be as wild as some of F—ked Up’s stage shows.
“I want this show to be fun. I want people to tune in and see an interesting side of this kind of music…. [But] yeah, there’s gonna be some weirdness. You can’t have me on TV without it being weird, ” he said.
Abraham has been a regular guest on the Fox News show Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld and also appeared in the interactive documentary City Sonic.
RapCity is also returning, hosted by T-RexXx (real name, Tyrone Edwards). It will feature videos, performances and interviews and will begin with an interview with Drake on Jan 20.
On Jan. 21, MuchMusic will launch a new program Trending that will examine the hottest Canadian trends of the moment.
Last May, MuchMusic asked the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission if it could decrease its music video programming by 50 per cent. The CRTC declined that request in November.
